More Amtrak Photos

by Craig Bass

On October 13, 2005, a Union Pacific freight train derailed in the mountains near Oakridge, Oregon.  This forced the rerouting of freight traffic, but Amtrak stopped its northbound Coast Starlight at Klamath Falls and put the passengers on buses.  They then backed the train south to the wye at Texum, just south of the Klamath Falls yard, and turned it on the wye that is located there, after which they backed it back north to a side track in the yard to lay over until the normally scheduled departure of that night's southbound Coast Starlight.

I was too late to catch the train entering the wye but I snapped a few progressive pictures of its three locomotives (only the first two were running) and eleven cars entering the eastbound Modoc Northern trackage and then backing around the north leg of the wye enroute to Klamath Falls yard.
