MNRR Work Train: A Play in Two Acts

SCENE II
At Davis Creek, California, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2006

MNRR Track Foreman John Carswell speeds south in MW 100 at Davis Creek to meet the crew at the washout site.  They call MW 100 "The Beast."  From what they tell me, the name is quite appropriate.  The ride is rough and noisy.  John says he doesn't dare push it over 10 mph on the Lake County's "Ripple Rail" (a term coined by either Chris Colt or Fred Mitchell, I don't recall which, but I hope they put me right).

The Beast:

John was supposed to stop at the crossing and pick me up, but he just lifted a hand in a wave as he "blew past me" (or, rather, sputtered past) and continued south:

So, figuring the train would be along presently, I checked out the equipment on the siding at Davis Creek.  After a few minutes I decided to get in my Jeep and head back to MP 466: I knew I'd beat John to the worksite with pleny of time to spare.
