After performing the voltage tests and recording the results on a log sheet, Fred activates the crossing signals and checks for proper function and of the gates and all the lights and makes sure everything is mounted securely.  Although he waited for a big break in the street traffic before flipping the switch, it doesn't take long for vehicles to appear at the crossing.
