ALCO S-4 Switcher

American Locomotive Works (ALCO)'s S4 diesel switcher was very popular among railroads and industries of all sizes. The McIntosh & Seymour 539 diesel prime mover (engine) generated 1000 horsepower.  Produced from 1950 through 1961, almost 800 units were built.  One, ex-SP No. 1474, can be seen in operation at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California, as seen in the photo below.
