Railroad Artwork - Note Cards and Line Drawings

Drawing # mrs1

EMD MRS-1 Military Road Switcher

Featuring adjustable-gauge trucks and a low profile hood/cab, these locomotives were built for the U.S. Army Transportation Corps to the military's specifications by ALCO/GE and EMD during the Korean War in the 1950's.  They were designed for possible use on Soviet railroads in the event the war expanded onto USSR soil.  Thankfully that never happened, and these locomotives saw little actual run time.

Three examples exist at the San Diego Railway Museum's Campo, California facility.  This one was drawn using a photo I had taken of one of the EMD MRS-1 locomotives at the museum.  I also took a shot of this locomotive pulling one of the first excursions out of Campo (below).

The Yreka Western Railroad purchased an ALCO RMS1 from the Railway Museum and is using it in regular freight service as well as occasional passenger excursions between Montague and Yreka, California.
